SPIRITUALITY AND PRAYER
OPPORTUNITIES
In addition to the usual opportunities for prayer,
small groups and individuals practice Centering Prayer, pray the
Rosary, and pray Compline. The first Saturday of the month is
generally a day of Recollection for the community, with additional
opportunities for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Eucharist and
spiritual teaching. The day is spent in silence and prayer, allowing
the Sisters to deepen their prayer life and set time apart for
personal reflection.
Each Sister is expected to spend time alone
every day for personal prayer and Lectio Divina. We are also
encouraged to be involved in on-going spiritual direction and
soul-sharing. A well-stocked library of books, periodicals, tapes
and videos are another resource for spiritual growth and
development. Workshops for the entire community, as well as
opportunities for personal retreats and education are provided.
Sisters are encouraged to avail themselves of the opportunity to
take personal days of prayer and reflection. The sisters may make
reservations at Hesychia, check a room out at the Center, or stay at
a get-away house, called Bethany, located in nearby Hackett,
Arkansas. Small groups also use Bethany as a space to share and
spend time together.
Each Sister spends time and prayer in discerning what
ministry she is called to offer to the community. Every member
shares the gifts and talents God has given her with the community
according to her abilities, interests, and the needs of community.
We don't insist on uniformity among our members. We see a necessity
for each individual to be allowed to develop and grow into the
unique person God created her to be. We place emphasis on accepting
each other where we are in relationship to God and our own personal
development. On-going conversion and self-knowledge is critical in
living the cenobitic life.
