SISTER FRANCES A. BRADDOCK

Sister Frances Anne Braddock, OSB, of St. Scholastica Monastery, Fort Smith, entered into eternal life on April 3, 2013 at the age of 94. She was born on April 2, 1919 in Blythe, Cal. to Joseph and Frances McCormick Hyland. She served in communications in the Army in World War II. She married Charles Braddock, with whom she raised seven children, in 1949. After her husband’s death, she entered St. Scholastica Monastery, joining her sisters, the late Sisters Roberta and DeChantal Hyland, OSB, there. She made her monastic profession on August 16, 1986.

During her 27 years at the monastery, Sister Frances Anne worked in St. Joseph Home, North Little Rock and Holy Redeemer Church, Clarksville. From 1992 until her retirement in 1999, she worked in the monastery kitchen and bakery. Sister Frances Anne is survived by five daughters: Charlyn Bernard, Kay Little, Lynora Lagrade, and Edna Adams, all of Houma, La.; and Rose Thummel of Thibodaux La; one sister, Joyce Tingle and one brother, Brother Gerald Hyland, SM; numerous grandchildren; and her religious community. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Bruce; her daughter, Elizabeth; eight sisters, Amy Kuster, Sister Roberta Hyland, OSB; Sister DeChantal Hyland, OSB; Catherine Hyland, Ruth Hyland, Joan Homan, Maureen Swaller and Rita Johnson; and four brothers, Fr. Fred Hyland, Bert Hyland, Pat Hyland, and Gary Hyland.

Sister Frances Anne’s funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, April 8, 2013 with Rev. David McKillin presiding.
