St. Scholastica Monastery

St. Scholastica Monastery sits on 66 scenic acres with walking paths through gardens and past grottoes, shrines, and gazebos where visitors can sit, reflect, and meditate. Our labyrinth, built with the help of the Friends of the Center, is designed in an eleven-circuit design with four quadrants used in many Gothic cathedrals; most notably the Chartres Cathedral built in 1200. Historically, pilgrims would walk the labyrinth as a questing, searching journey in hope of becoming closer to God. Visitors are welcome to walk the monastery grounds during the day.

To arrange for an interior tour of the monastery, call (479) 783-4147 at least one day in advance.

Hesychia House of Prayer

Hesychia House of Prayer, located in Shoal Creek, Arkansas, is a ministry of St. Scholastica Monastery, started in 1981 and staffed by Sisters Louise Sharum, Andrea Loran, and Ethel Marie Sonnier, OSB. Nestled within two hundred acres of woods and pastures of grazing cattle are the main house/chapel and four individual hermitages for guests who would like to make individual retreats. The name “Hesychia,” is from a Greek word meaning “resting in God.” Resting in God is to be a part of our lives even in our most busy and pressured times. For this to happen, times and places when we can be immersed in silence and solitude can be most helpful. To get more information about Hesychia or to reserve a hermitage, call 479-938-7375 or click here
