Description
Write the Vision Down: 1879-1979, 100 Years of St. Scholastica History, first published in 1979, is the first of two histories written by Sr. Louise Sharum, OSB, prioress of St. Scholastica Monastery from 1985-1993, Her second book, Until the Morning Star Rises, covers the years 1979-2004. The book relates how four Benedictine sisters traveled from Ferdinand, IN to Shoal Creek, AR and established St. Scholastica Convent in 1879; their move to Fort Smith in 1924; their amalgamation with two other communities in Pilot Grove, MO and Covington, LA; their establishment of a daughter house in Columbia, MO; and their constant response to God’s call. As the sisters reflect back on the witness of their foremothers each January 23 (Founders Day), they draw strength and peace from their community’s having experienced repeatedly God’s faithful love that enfolds all of creation. Like their foremothers, they continue to “seek God in their life together and enlivened by daily prayer, and to respond to the needs of the people of God in a spirit of hospitality, simplicity, and reverence for one another and all creation.”
